Australian passport - Significant Investor VisaWFDB influence extends further than you might think.

Recently while having a cup of coffee with a few colleagues, we discussed how fortunate we were living in Australia. A number of guys at the table were sharing stories of their colleagues in Antwerp and South Africa who were concerned for the future, and especially that of their children.

As so often happens, a few days later I received an email from a good friend of mine, Ivan Chait from Santa Fe immigration services. Whether it was a coincidence or not, it was the opening lines of his email which told the story.

To quote directly:

“I was recently looking at the WFDB website and was most impressed by the organisation overall and in particular by the rules and bylaws by which members must abide by. This is no doubt the reason that the WFDB has such a high quality and reputable membership.”

The email continues on the basis that he has had an increase in interest from those in the international diamond community who are looking to secure residency in Australia, as there is a new Visa category called Significant Investor Visa.

Ivan goes on to ask if, as the President of my Club, we could act as a referee for prospective applicants of the diamond industry. No doubt a member in good standing would always receive our endorsement.

Clearly the outside world sees the stature and standards under which we operate, something we can all be exceptionally proud of.

On a separate note, I wasn’t aware of this particular type of visa. For those who are curious, it’s interesting: There is no upper age limit, no minimum English standard demanded, you only need to be in Australia for 40 days per year over a four-year period to be eligible for permanent residency. One does need to have $5 million in investments in the country and they need to be in managed funds. I’m sure there are a variety of other conditions, but these are the ones that caught my eye.

Feel free to reach out to me if you are planning to come to OZ :)
